Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PestFlap, including sizing, installation, maintenance, warranty and trade and distribution. Straight answers, without the jargon.
What is PestFlap?
PestFlap is a retrofit mechanical valve that fits into existing drainage connections to create a one-way barrier. It remains closed by default and opens only when wastewater passes through. It is designed to help prevent pests, sewer odours and reverse airflow from entering a building through the drain.
What’s the difference between PF3 and PF4?
PF3 is designed for standard US 3-inch toilet flanges and floor drains, while PF4 is our original 4-inch / 110mm product for larger residential, commercial and industrial drainage applications. If you’re unsure which model fits your pipe, measure the internal diameter of the drain opening. If you’re still unsure, contact us and we’ll confirm the right fit before you order.
Does PestFlap need electricity?
No. Both PF3 and PF4 are entirely mechanical, with no power, batteries, sensors or wiring required. They open and close through water flow and gravity alone.
Will PestFlap fit every pipe of the stated size?
Not necessarily. Nominal pipe size is a starting point, not a guarantee of fit. Actual compatibility depends on the internal dimensions, fitting type, access and insertion depth. Check the approved drawing for your product, or send us your drain details and we’ll confirm compatibility before you buy.
Does PestFlap stop flooding?
PestFlap is designed as a pest and odour barrier, not as a flood-prevention device. It should not be considered a substitute for a code-compliant backwater valve unless the specific product has been tested and certified for that purpose. If flood protection is your primary concern, contact us to discuss the right solution for your situation.
Can PestFlap actually stop rats?
PestFlap creates a physical, mechanical barrier at the drainage opening designed to prevent rats and other pests from passing through. Its performance also depends on correct sizing, proper installation and the condition of the surrounding drainage. A barrier can only work effectively when it is fitted correctly and the surrounding pipework is in good condition.
Will it affect my normal drainage?
No, the flap is designed to open freely under normal discharge flow. Correct installation, adequate flow conditions and routine inspection are important to keep it operating as intended, just as with any drainage component.
Does it need maintenance?
PestFlap is designed to be low-maintenance, with no scheduled servicing required. However, the drainage point should remain accessible for inspection and cleaning where required by your setup.
Who should install it?
Any competent plumber, drainage contractor, pest control professional or capable installer can fit PestFlap. If the installation involves disconnecting plumbing or modifying regulated drainage, the work should be carried out by someone qualified to do so.
